My name is Kate Huggins and I'm ready to step up and make a difference in West Milford.
I am a lifelong resident of West Milford and a West Milford Highschool grad. I believe that real change starts with people who are willing to get involved—and I try and prove that every day. While I may be young, I bring energy, determination, and a strong commitment to keeping our community clean, safe, and welcoming for everyone.
As a lover of the outdoors, I care deeply about preserving some of our towns greatest assets, its natural beauty and outdoor recreational opportunities.
I am is currently studying political science at Passaic County Community College, and hope to continue my education at Princeton. You may already know me from behind the counter at Utopia Deli or Jessie’s Cottage, working to serve you great food and building strong connections with members of my community.
In my free time, I enjoy mountain biking and walking around town—so I've seen firsthand how unsafe it can be for young people to bike or walk in West Milford. That’s why I'm proposing creative solutions like closing East Shore Drive, from Awosting Rd to Greenwood Lake Tpke, one Sunday a month. That could provide a safe space for biking, walking and hiking, and goes along with broader efforts to improve walkability in our downtown.
I am also a dedicated volunteer—you may have spotted me picking up litter across from McDonald’s—because I believe in leading by example and taking pride in our town.
Most importantly, I want to inspire young people to get involved and recognize that local politics belongs to them too.
